Social Media Platforms Remain Blocked in Pakistan as PTA Awaits Unblocking Orders

In a recent development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the restoration of mobile internet services across most parts of the country, excluding a few sensitive areas. However, Pakistani users continue to face restrictions accessing social media platforms, including Twitter and YouTube, while WhatsApp remains accessible.

According to a spokesperson from the PTA, the restoration of social media platforms has not been initiated as the Ministry of Interior has not issued any instructions to proceed with the unblocking. Moreover, mobile internet services remain completely blocked in specific sensitive regions within the country.

The ban on these apps was initially imposed upon the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs shortly after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. While fixed broadband internet services have been largely unaffected, social media platforms have remained inaccessible to users.

The PTA official further stated that a decision to lift the ban on social media platforms will be made soon, pending instructions from the federal government. However, as of now, no instructions have been received regarding a potential shutdown of data services on Monday.

This ongoing situation has left Pakistani users unable to access popular social media platforms, causing inconvenience and limiting their ability to engage in online communication and access information shared on these platforms. The PTA continues to await instructions from the relevant authorities, who will ultimately determine the fate of the ban on social media platforms in the country.
