Army Acquires Thousands of Acres of Land in Punjab for Agricultural Use

The Pakistani Army has been granted access to approximately 45,267 acres of barren land in the Bhakkar, Khushab, and Sahiwal districts of Punjab for the purpose of “Corporate Agricultural Farming.” The army’s land directorate submitted a request to the Punjab chief secretary, Board of Revenue, and various departmental secretaries to acquire the land.

The land in question consists of 42,724 acres in the tehsils of Kaloor Kot and Mankera in Bhakkar, 1,818 acres in the tehsils of Quaidabad and Khushab, and 725 acres in the tehsil of Chichawatni in Sahiwal.

The proposed use of the land by the army has sparked debate, with some questioning the implications for local communities and their access to resources.
