Islamabad university professor sacked for sexual harassment of student

A professor at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology in Islamabad has been fired by the university administration for harassing a female student by sending her inappropriate messages and threatening to fail her if she did not comply with his demands.

The head of the Physics Department failed the student by only one mark after she refused to fulfill his request. The student reported the incident to three other professors, who advised her not to speak about it to avoid shaming her family.

Despite their advice, the student filed a complaint with the university administration. After a thorough investigation lasting one-and-a-half months, the anti-harassment committee determined that the allegations were true and recommended the removal of the head of the physics department.

The university acted on the committee’s recommendation, terminating the professor’s employment and ordering that an impartial forum evaluate the student’s next papers.
