Last Roar of the V-8: Maserati Celebrates Six Decades with Ghibli 334 Ultima

Maserati bids farewell to six decades of V-8 engines with the introduction of the 2024 Ghibli 334 Ultima. This special edition model commemorates the iconic V-8 powerplants that have defined Maserati’s lineup since 1959. Alongside the Ghibli, Maserati also unveils the Levante V8 Ultima, solidifying the end of an era for their V-8 engine offerings.

Back in 1967, Maserati introduced the first Ghibli, equipped with either a 4.7-liter or a 4.9-liter V-8 engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Over the years, the Ghibli evolved, and now, in its latest iteration, the Ghibli 334 Ultima takes center stage. Powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8, this beast produces an impressive 572 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 207.54 mph (334 kph), Maserati claims it to be the fastest ICE-powered sedan in the world. The 0-62 mph time has been reduced to just 3.9 seconds, further accentuating its performance capabilities.

To commemorate the V-8’s legacy, the Ghibli 334 Ultima receives several special enhancements. Carbon fiber is used extensively for the spoiler, bumper plates, door handles, mirror caps, and B- and C-pillars, emphasizing a focus on weight reduction. The exterior is adorned with a unique Scia di Persia paintwork with Rubino accents, while the 21-inch Orione wheels feature aerodynamic elements. Inside, the Pale Terracotta leather seats feature black Alcantara center “cannellonis” and are adorned with Maserati trident and 334 logos. The center console’s carbon trim showcases a badge displaying “334” with “una di 103” denoting its limited production of 103 units.

Joining the Ghibli in bidding farewell to the V-8 engine is the Levante V8 Ultima. Sharing the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, the Levante V8 Ultima boasts the same power figures as its sedan counterpart. Carbon fiber components contribute to weight reduction, while the Pale Terracotta leather seats with a “una di 103” badge provide a distinctive touch. The Levante V8 Ultima is available in Nero Assoluto black or Blu Royale blue and features 22-inch glossy black Orione wheels with a Rubino red “V-8 Ultima” logo painted on the front fenders.

Both the Ghibli 334 Ultima and Levante V8 Ultima showcased their prowess at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking part in the Goodwood hill climb and being displayed at the First Glance Paddock. Pricing and availability details for these limited-edition models are yet to be announced, but they are expected to reflect their exclusive nature, making them far from affordable or reasonable options.
