Former Pakistani premier Imran Khan led a political rally at Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan ground on Saturday despite a “threat alert” issued by the interim Punjab government warning of possible terrorist attacks.
The government had announced that terrorists carrying explosives had reached Lahore and may target political events or law enforcers deployed for their security.
Khan addressed the rally from a bulletproof container placed at the jalsa ground for his safety. The government had placed containers on the roads leading to the venue, creating obstacles for the attendees.
The police arrested over 50 PTI workers from different areas of Rahim Yar Khan and 26 workers, including PTI leader Javed Akhtar Ansari’s son, from Multan. Despite the obstacles, Khan urged his supporters to attend the rally, which he believes “broke all records”.
