Ramadan Moon Sighted in Pakistan, First Fast to be Observed on Thursday

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan has announced that the Ramadan moon was sighted, and the first day of the holy month will be observed on Thursday.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the committee, made the announcement during a press conference in Peshawar.

Although the moon wasn’t sighted in Peshawar due to cloudy weather, testimonies were received from several other locations nationwide, including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Swabi, Qila Saifullah, and Mardan.

Saudi Arabia and most Gulf states will also begin the fasting month on Thursday. It is noteworthy that people across Pakistan will observe Roza on the same day after several years, as previously, people in Peshawar used to keep fast a day before others.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had earlier predicted chances of sighting the crescent moon, but the weather was cloudy. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s Zonal meeting in Karachi was informed that the moon could be sighted around 7:28 pm.

The committee held meetings in all provinces to create consensus on the sighting of the crescent of Ramadan on the same day. They received calls for evidence and invited people from private Ruet committees to record their statements. The committee cross-questioned people to ascertain the same. However, the Ramadan moon was not sighted in India and Bangladesh.
