US and Pakistan to Hold Comprehensive Dialogue on Counterterrorism

The United States and Pakistan are set to engage in a comprehensive dialogue on counterterrorism to develop policy-oriented strategies for increased cooperation and coordinated efforts against the ongoing threat of terrorism.

The US State Department announced that an inter-agency delegation, led by acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Christopher Landberg, will visit Pakistan from March 6-7 to discuss the shared terrorist threats facing the two countries. The discussions will cover critical areas such as border security and countering the financing of terrorism.

The announcement comes in the wake of rising terror incidents in Pakistan and Washington’s commitment to help the country deal with the deteriorating law and order situation. In February, US Department of State Counselor Derek Chollet visited Pakistan and held a series of meetings with civil and military leadership, highlighting the importance of bilateral partnership and shared goals.

The meetings focused on strengthening economic cooperation and Pakistan’s needs as it continues to recover and rebuild after the floods. Counselor Chollet also discussed security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

The upcoming dialogue underscores the significance of mutual cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in addressing terrorism and underscores the positive trajectory of the relationship between the two countries.
