WhatsApp introduces group call scheduling feature, similar to Google Meet and Zoom

WhatsApp is constantly updating its features in order to remain competitive. WhatsApp has recently adopted a number of features inspired by rival app Telegram. Now, WhatsApp is introducing a new feature for group calls, similar to Google Meet and Zoom. The messaging app emulates Google Meet by allowing users to schedule audio and video calls within group chats.

Initially observed on WhatsApp beta for Android a few weeks ago, the feature has now begun to appear on WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.4.0.75 via the TestFlight app. WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp beta releases and features, reported the feature.

Once the call has been scheduled, all group members will be notified of the scheduled time, making it easier for them to join the call promptly. Depending on which call button is used to access the context menu, the group call scheduling feature will work with both audio and video calls.

This new feature will unquestionably help group members plan ahead for meetings and events. It ensures that everyone in the group is aware of the meeting time, allowing them to prepare accordingly without additional reminders. It also reduces the possibility of missed or delayed calls.

The feature is still in beta testing, but it is anticipated that it will soon be included in the stable versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS. As it is a minor feature, the rollout to users should not take long. This new feature demonstrates that WhatsApp is continuously enhancing its app to remain competitive in the messaging app market.
